This article is about the LCD TVs. What is LCD? LCD means 'liquid crystal display' and is very different from your Plasma type TVs. LCD is in nearly everything we use. Microwaves, digital watches, thermometers, mood rings, and lap top computers are a few of the items that use liquid crystal display. Liquid crystals are neither a solid or a liquid, but some where in between, and are extremely sensitive to temperature, and is why a laptop computer may act funny if the weather outside gets too cold or too hot.

The way an LCD Screen TV works is by polarization of light by two pieces of polarized glass, rubbing a groove making type of polymer on the sides of the glass without the polarization, and then laying down a layer of the nomadic liquid crystal between the pieces of glass. The electricity that passes through the LCD twists the crystals to form the images. While it is just a bit more complicated than this simplified explanation, this is the basic gist of how a LCD TV works.

LCD TVs are expensive. Ranging from around $900 up to $4000. And, while they do seem to be much less sensitive to getting bumped and being damaged like a Plasma TV is, the only real down side that I have seen so far is the sensitivity to the temperature. Keeping you house at an even temperature of around the mid 70s seems to work best for these types of TVs. There does seem to be a bit of sensitivity to pressure, but unless your pressing really hard on the screen this should not be an issue. The sizes of a LCD TV vary from around 20" screens to 52" screens....depending on how much you are willing to spend. The picture sharpness seems to be pretty well even with all the sizes with only some slight variation.

So, if your idea of the perfect TV is one of the LCDs, and your one of the lucky few who have the budget for one of these types, then shop happily for the one that suits you, and your family's needs the best. needs the best.
