Big Screen Televisions
The name conjures up the mental image of a TV that looks like a small scale theater.
There are three types of big screen TVs...Plasma, (the kind that hang on the wall), ranging in size from 41" to 61"(rectangle types only).
The Front projectors. These kind have a separate projector and screen, and can project images from 36" to 30' across.
And, finally, the Rear projection type of big screen TV. these look like great big boxes and range in size from 40" to 80" diagonal. The screen types come in the traditional square shape, or in the rectangular theater screen style.
The cost of each of these vary greatly, with the plasma being the most expensive of the three....running around $6000 to $30,000.
Your Front projector type used to run up to the price of a Ferrari, but thankfully, with introduction of digital technology they now run in the price range of $3500 to $6000.
Rear Projection TVs
The Rear projector type, which is what most people think of when they big screen TV, range in price of $1100 to $10,000. These TVs generally provide the best combination or price, performance, and that big screen size so many of us lust after.
Even in the rear projector models, ther are three types. Analog, Digital, and HDTV. The analog type will let you watch regular TV, VHS video tapes, and DVDs...except those DVDs that are enhanced for wide screen TVs. These are the least expensive of the three types starting at around $1100, and topping out at around $2500.
The digital, also know as HDTV ready, is higher resolution than the analog and gives you a sharper more pure picture. Digital TVs will allow you to get the ultimate in high resolution of the HDTV if you buy a separate decoder box, and if there is any HDTV available.
And, finally, there's the HDTV models. The resolution on these babies is incredible.
These have that-Oh wow! It-looks-like-I-can-reach-out-and-
touch-whatever-is-on-the-screen- kind of picture sharpness. But, these are the most expensive of the the three types.
So, if your just dying for a Big screen TV there's a model to fit most budgets. Brand names vary, and as usual, so does the quality. Pick your favorite and then plan for family movie nights around your own personal theater.
